Stourbridge FC - Post Match Reaction
Technical Director Phil Nardiello was impressed with the performance of the team against rivals Stourbridge, he explained "To be 2-0 up against Stourbridge at half time was impressive enough but to finish the game with that score was fantastic. We managed to pinch a goal thanks to Stefan Moore and at times it looked like they would trouble us on the break. But once again our back four was solid plus Dean Coleman of course, who has had four clean sheets and only let in two goals this season.
I was pleased with the movement up front, I really feel Michael (Nardiello) and Stefan are really starting to gel, they had some good movement and interplay. The wingers and fullbacks linked up really well too. Toward the end of the game we saw a touch of showboating which was quite nice, but I think it was more by accident than intentional and I put that down to the players enjoying themselves and showing their confidence."
Discussing the goals, Phil said "Stefan has an eye for goal and proved again today if he is given the service he is going to put the chance away, nine times out of ten he will have it in the net, which is what a good striker does. David Stone had a good game, I like him getting the ball and coming from deep, because he likes to run at players. His goal was outstanding and an absolutely quality finish, and it was quite possibly the highlight of the game."
Phil Nardiello hopes that the game filled the travelling fans with confidence heading into the next few games, "The message to all the fans is that our league starts now really, we are up there with Stourbridge and in the top eight, and now we have another big game on Saturday against Hemel Hempstead. If we can get 3 points from that then we will be up and running. The team is in a buoyant and confident mood at the moment. The atmosphere in the dressing room is fantastic. I hope the fans who came to support us tonight, enjoyed what they saw and they realise that they can play a big part in what we hope will be a successful season."
Captain Jamie Hood was delighted with the win, he commented "I thought we played well, its always good to win a derby game against your big rivals, particularly for the fans who now have the bragging rights. We defended well, not just as a back four or five but as team of 11. Its another clean sheet and that’s four this season."
Asked what the key was to the defence's success this season, Jamie explained "We are all talking to each other, and we are all quite experienced so we're enjoying playing as a back four plus Dean Coleman of course who is brilliant as is Lee Ayres and the two younger lads Conor Gater, who is doing a fantastic job at left back considering he is naturally a midfielder and Dallas Moore knows the game having been at Grimsby, they are nice lads, both still learning and they are doing really well."
The Yeltz hope to continue their unbeaten start to the season when they take on Hemel Hempstead on Saturday.
